Patrimonium supports Reefonomics to deliver verifiable, long-term protection of coral reefs by aligning environmental preservation with local economic value creation.
Our engagement focuses on the Wakatobi Conservation Project in Indonesia, where reef protection has been built over decades through direct agreements with coastal communities. The underlying principle is clear: conservation endures when it creates lasting economic value locally. In Wakatobi, this approach has resulted in protected reef areas, community-led stewardship and the creation of stable local employment, including paid reef protection and monitoring activities as well as jobs linked to sustainable, nature-based tourism.
Reefonomics builds on this foundation by monitoring reef areas on an ongoing basis with a scientific approach, allowing environmental impact to be tracked and reviewed consistently over time.
